Cannabinoids are key components of the cannabis plant’s chemical structure, alongside other nutrients like terpenes. There are over 120 different cannabinoids, which together create what’s known as the full spectrum. Among these, a few stand out as the celebrities of the cannabis market. Popular cannabinoids include CBD (Cannabidiol), CBG (Cannabigerol), CBN (Cannabinol), CBC (Cannabichromene), and the psychoactive THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol), which is illegal in Slovakia. The effects and concentrations of these compounds vary depending on the cannabis strain. There are CBD seeds for planting, as well as seeds that grow into marijuana with THC-rich buds.
Cannabinoids in Cannabis (Marijuana)
The cannabis plant, often a topic of controversy, contains various active compounds known as cannabinoids. While not all of them are known yet, we’ve identified over a hundred. This group includes well-known cannabinoids like CBD, CBG, and the psychoactive THC. The effects of cannabis largely depend on the ratios and concentrations of these compounds. Some strains may have around 20% THC and less than 1% CBD (THC weed), while others might have around 20% CBD and less than 1% THC (CBD weed). The main active compound usually has the highest concentration, supported by trace amounts of the full spectrum, creating what’s known as the entourage effect.
Cannabinoid CBD (Cannabidiol)
CBD (Cannabidiol) is one of the most well-known compounds in cannabis, alongside THC. Its popularity in Slovakia surged after its recent legalization, which received massive media coverage. This brought CBD into the spotlight, even for those who wouldn’t typically seek it out. In mid-2021, after years of effort, CBD was removed from the list of narcotic and psychotropic substances. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), CBD is a safe cannabis compound with no significant reasons to prohibit its sale or use.
Cannabinoid CBG (Cannabigerol)
CBG (Cannabigerol) is another highly sought-after cannabis compound with no psychoactive effects. CBG products are the second most popular on the legal cannabis market after CBD products, thanks to their effective properties. Organic CBG drops, especially those with higher concentrations of CBD or CBN (Cannabinol), are particularly popular. CBG in cannabis is the precursor to both CBD and the psychoactive THC, and THC, in turn, breaks down into CBN.
Cannabinoid CBG (Cannabigerol)
CBG (Cannabigerol) is another highly sought-after cannabis compound with no psychoactive effects. CBG products are the second most popular on the legal cannabis market after CBD products, thanks to their relatively lesser-known but effective properties. Organic CBG drops, especially those with higher concentrations of CBD or CBN (Cannabinol), are particularly popular. Interestingly, CBG in cannabis is the precursor to both CBD and the psychoactive THC, and THC, in turn, breaks down into CBN.
Cannabinoid CBN (Cannabinol)
CBN (Cannabinol) is known as the sleep cannabinoid. While scientists are skeptical about its effects on sleep, practical experience shows that quality CBN drops with a full spectrum and high CBD concentration can indeed help with sleep issues. From our extensive experience with CBN oil, we’ve found it to be a relatively effective sedative. However, CBN is scarce in cannabis because it forms mainly in mature plants exposed to extended light. As mentioned, CBN is derived from the sedative THC.
Cannabinoid CBC (Cannabichromene)
CBC (Cannabichromene) may not be as well-known as CBD or CBG, but more brands are starting to include it in their products, so this is likely to change soon. CBC is often used to enhance the entourage effect, improving the basic effects of CBD or CBG oil. Like other active compounds in cannabis, the full range of CBC’s practical uses is still being explored.
Cannabinoid THC (Tetrahydrokanabinol)
THC is the most controversial cannabinoid due to its strong psychoactive effects, which significantly alter the user’s consciousness. Because of these effects, THC is banned in many parts of the world, including Slovakia, partly due to its potential to create a strong dependency. Unlike CBD, THC cannot be considered a cannabis compound with a safe profile.
